Ryosuke Tanzawa is a Japanese-born independent filmmaker and photographer based in New York City.
Tanzawa’s visual work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Dazed, Popeye, and Bomb Magazine. He has been commissioned by brands and cultural platforms such as Wales Bonner, Saint Heron, adidas, ASICS, Vainl Archive, Reebok, and Vans.
He has collaborated with Armand Hammer (billy woods & Elucid), The Alchemist, Makaya McCraven, Slauson Malone 1 (aka Jasper Marsalis), MIKE, Navy Blue (aka Sage Elsesser), Earl Sweatshirt, Wiki, Run the Jewels, and more.
His films have been screened at the 70th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen and the D.A. Pennebaker Tribute: City & Sound program at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival (2020).
Tanzawa continues to self-release photo zines, including First Thought Best Thought (2022) with Full Court Press, Island to Island (2023), New Heaven (2024), and Young World 3 (2024).
